Research Focus
Myresearch is focused on understanding the molecular and cellular basis of tissue regeneration using freshwater planarian S. mediterranea as a model organism. Planarian provides a particularly tractable system to approach this goal because it is one of the simplest metazoans possessing remarkable regenerative capability, and because it has become relatively easy to molecularly manipulate this organism. Using planarian as a model system, I will take a multidisciplinary approach combining molecular biology, genetics, optical imaging and single cell technologies to identify the cellular originsand epigenetic mechanism of regeneration processes.
