Research Focus
Dr. Li’s research is focused on developing statistical models and computational tools to understanding
the genetics of human diseases. He pioneered statistical models for rare variant analysis in sequencing
studies of genetics of complex diseases. His current research interests are to leverage genomics data
and BioBanks linked to electronic health records (EHR) to dissect the genetic underpinning of human
diseases, with a focus on psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and autism, and cancers. He is
leading the Vanderbilt Analysis Center to analyze >100,000 high-depth whole genome sequencing
data generated by the NHGRI-supported Genome Sequencing Program to dissect the genetics basis
of multiple major diseases, including neuropsychiatric disorders, immune-related diseases, and
cardiovascular diseases.
