Research Focus
Stem cells hold great potential to regenerate damaged tissue through exerting their self-renewal and differentiation abilities. Adult stem cells, which exist in many tissues and organs in the body, could be used to restore healthy tissue when properly regulated. My research focuses on deciphering the mechanisms of the self-renewal and differentiation of adult stem cells, and developing strategies to treat diseases through controlling the behavior of adult stem cells. Using an Lgr5 intestinal stem cell organoid model, I identified small molecule combinations to regulate their behavior, which were further translated into the inner ear stem cell system to treat hearing loss.
