Research Focus
- My research is focused on understanding cardiovascular development and regeneration. Using in vivo mouse development and disease models and in vitroHigh-Content-Screening platforms based on cardiomyocytes derived from stem cells, I am trying to identify and study novel molecules and pathways regulating cardiovascular development and diseases, focusing on regeneration of functional cells in the heart, aiming to develop novel therapeutic tools to treat heart diseases. Particularly, I identified FSTL1 as an epicardial secreted protein promoting cardiomyocyte proliferation in vitro, and reconstituting FSTL1 through engineered epicardium can regenerate the adult mammalian heart.
