The Yue laboratory is interested in understanding the mechanisms by which skeletal stem cells and hematopoietic stem cells are regulated in the bone marrow microenvironment, as well as their clinical applications in regenerative medicine, with the ultimate goal of finding novel treatments for skeletal and hematological diseases.

Skeletal stem cells (SSCs), or bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, give rise to osteoblasts, adipocytes and chondrocytes to maintain skeletal remodeling during development and regeneration. In addition, SSCs also secrete important growth factors to create a bone marrow niche for hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to regulate their self-renewal and differentiation. We are fascinated by the fact that the stem cells of the skeletal and hematopoietic systems cross-talk with each other and trying to explore the underlying mechanisms.

My research interests include:

1. Dissecting the hierarchies of skeletal stem cells in the adult bone marrow microenvironment;

2. Identifying novel osteogenic and hematopoietic growth factors in the bone marrow microenvironment to promote skeletal and hematopoietic regeneration;

3. Reconstructing the bone marrow microenvironment for hematopoietic stem cell expansion.
